Oban Times : Funding secures community ownership for Morvern Games group
Philip Coghill, development manager with Highlands and Islands Enterprise said: “MGGW have put in a huge amount of work to get the project to this stage, and it’s been a pleasure along with my now retired colleague John MacDonald to support the group in developing their plans to take this land into community ownership with money from the Scottish Land Fund. The project has huge potential and I look forward to seeing their plans come to fruition.”
The ideas from the community are endless for Knock Park and the surrounding areas.
It is time to give the residents and visitors to the area a real vision for the area.
James Hilder of An Roth Associates who published a feasibility study said “The Games Committee got a strong turnout and a very clear directive from the community so we have looked to see if the sums stack up. There is clearly a need for a much better building on the site and if combined with income generating opportunities like a gym, an aire for motorhomes and venue hire, then facilities for Lochaline could be transformed over the next five years.

JOB VACANCY
An exciting opportunity to be part of the future of Knock Park, a community owned recreational area nestled above the beautiful village of Lochaline on the Morvern Peninsula.
In May 2023, Morvern Games & Gala Week, with a grant from the Scottish Land Fund, acquired 47 acres of land at Knock Park from Ardtornish Estate. There are many facets to the development of the site which include motorhome stopover facilities, camping, woodland management and enhancing recreational amenities and facilities.
We are now looking for a project support officer to work with the trustees to ensure the ideas of our community are listened to and come to fruition.
